Providing Kapanga with green energy is a pilot project.
Before ELKAP, nobody has ever tried to introduce - neither in the Kapanga Territory nor in the huge Katanga Province - renewable electrification, accessible to everybody, by exploiting the number one natural resource of the region: water!
Nevertheless, ELKAP is not a hazardous project:
- Including its inventor, technically trained Father Jaak Henkens, ELKAP is relying on qualified local staff.
- The Salvatorians in the D.R. Congo have a 30 year track record as missionaries amidst and at the service of the local population. They know everything about their living conditions, their problems, and their needs.
- With the help of SOFIA, the charity of the Salvatorians which specialises in planning and fundraising for development projects, ELKAP has been designed according to international standards and has received substantial grants. The European Commission and the Katanga Province have approved its professional mode of operation.
- The sustainability of the project is ensured by various elements.
